What is the HAZMAT Endorsement?
The HAZMAT (H) endorsement is an add-on to your Class A or Class B CDL that authorizes you to transport hazardous materials as defined by federal regulations — explosives, gases, flammable liquids, radioactive materials, and more. Our FMCSA-registered course fulfills the required ELDT theory component, and your certificate is automatically uploaded to the federal registry when you finish.
What Can You Transport with HAZMAT?
- Explosives — Class 1
- Gases (flammable, non-flammable, toxic) — Class 2
- Flammable & combustible liquids — Class 3
- Flammable solids and reactive materials — Class 4
- Oxidizers and organic peroxides — Class 5
- Toxic and infectious substances — Class 6
- Radioactive materials — Class 7
- Corrosives and miscellaneous goods — Classes 8 & 9
What's Covered in the Course?
- Hazardous materials classification and identification
- Placarding, labeling, and marking requirements
- Safe loading, unloading, and handling procedures
- Emergency response and incident procedures
- Security awareness and threat response planning
- Shipping papers and documentation requirements
- Vehicle inspection specific to HAZMAT transport
- Route restrictions, parking rules, and tunnel regulations
⚠️ Additional Requirements Beyond This Course
The HAZMAT endorsement requires a TSA security threat assessment including fingerprinting, in addition to this ELDT training. You must pass both the TSA background check and your state's HAZMAT knowledge test at the DMV. This course gets you the training certification — the other steps are done separately.
Who Needs This?
- CDL drivers adding the H endorsement for the first time
- Fuel tanker and petroleum product drivers
- Chemical transport and industrial gas drivers
- Drivers looking to move into higher-paying specialized freight
- Drivers renewing or reinstating a lapsed HAZMAT endorsement
💰 Why HAZMAT Pays More
HAZMAT certification creates a smaller, more specialized pool of qualified drivers. Employers — especially in fuel, chemicals, and industrial gases — pay 15–25% premiums to attract certified drivers. Average HAZMAT positions run $70,000–$100,000+/year. The $40 course is the cheapest step in unlocking that pay bracket.
