What is the Passenger (P) Endorsement?
The P endorsement is added to your existing Class A or Class B CDL and authorizes you to operate vehicles designed to carry 16 or more passengers (including the driver). Federal law requires ELDT theory training from an FMCSA-registered provider before the DMV can issue the endorsement. Our course fulfills that requirement — and your certificate is auto-uploaded to the federal registry when you finish.
What You'll Learn
- Pre-trip bus inspection — mirrors, emergency exits, wheelchair lifts
- Passenger boarding, standee, and unruly passenger procedures
- ADA compliance — wheelchair securement and disability accommodations
- Emergency procedures — evacuation, fire extinguisher use (P.A.S.S.)
- Safety briefings — how to conduct passenger awareness briefings
- Prohibited behaviors and FMCSA passenger carrier regulations
- Hours of service for passenger carriers
- School Bus (S) endorsement eligibility (requires P first)
Who Needs This?
- Anyone adding the P endorsement to an existing Class A or B CDL
- Transit bus and city bus operators
- Charter bus, tour bus, and motorcoach drivers
- Airport shuttle and hotel transport drivers
- Anyone seeking the School Bus (S) endorsement — P is a prerequisite
P vs. S Endorsement — What's the Difference?
The P (Passenger) endorsement covers all vehicles with 16+ passengers. The S (School Bus) endorsement is a separate endorsement specifically for school buses — but you need the P first. If you're going into school bus driving, get P now and add S next.
🏠 Home Daily. Great Benefits.
Passenger driving jobs — transit, charter, shuttle — are almost exclusively local or regional. That means home every night. Many transit agency positions also include health insurance, pension plans, and union protection. Stable, community-focused work with a schedule you can plan around.
