About Our CDL Practice Tests

Our CDL practice tests are designed to help you prepare for the Commercial Driver's License written knowledge exam at your local DMV. The questions cover the same topics found on the real test, sourced directly from official CDL handbooks and federal motor carrier safety regulations.

What Tests Do I Need?

For a Class A CDL, you'll typically need to pass General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combination Vehicles tests at the DMV. For a Class B CDL, you'll need General Knowledge and possibly Air Brakes. Additional endorsements like HAZMAT, Tanker, Doubles/Triples, Passenger, and School Bus each require their own written test.

How Is This Different from ELDT Training?

Practice tests help you study for the DMV written exam to get your Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). ELDT (Entry Level Driver Training) is a separate, federally mandated theory course required by the FMCSA before you can take the CDL skills test. Think of it this way: practice test first to get your permit, then ELDT training to get your full CDL.

Are These Questions Current for 2026?

Yes. Our question bank is regularly updated to reflect current FMCSA regulations and state CDL handbook content. The core CDL knowledge is federally standardized, meaning these questions apply to all 50 states.
